Deep inky purple. Intense nose of juicy blackberries, chocolate, creme de cassis with violets and Mediterranean herbs. Full-bodied with dark berries carrying through to the palate, despite its richness the wine has a great freshness and a powerful tannin structure with savory herbs on the wonderful finish.

Country: Italy Region: Bari, Puglia Grape: Susumaniello

ABV: 14% Bottle Size: 75cl Vegetarian, Vegan

Additional Information:  A Mano is the creation of Mark Shannon (a Californian winemaker) and Elvezia Sbalchiero (a northern Italian wine marketing expert), who came to Puglia and fell in love. They have been at the forefront of increasing the quality of Primitivo wine, sourcing grapes from old vines with a focus on quality and a more modern style of wine. They have expanded their winemaking outside of Primitivo and have produced this Susumaniello, a rare and ancient grape from Puglia, which was recently only used for blending. The name means 'little donkey' in local dialect, named after the enormous load the vines bear when young, although it may also be because the grape is stubborn and difficult to manage! The sandy vineyards located on the Salento peninsula (‘the heel of the boot’) are high up on the hillside, dry farmed and are over 30 years old. Grapes were sorted and cold fermented in stainless steel tanks with gentle pump-overs so as not to over-extract the aggressive tannins of this unusual variety. There was no wood ageing and bottled without fining.

100% Susumaniello. Pair with rich meat dishes and heavy, comforting side dishes such as grilled fillet of beef and duck
