This aromatized wine was originally created in 1891 and production hasn’t stopped since then. Probably the most famous of all the Cocchi family, the name comes from the alcohol being made bitter (by adding spices and herbs), and from the American tradition of drinking vermouth with ice and soda.
To produce Cocchi Americano, white wine is aromatized with the extract obtained through a cold infusion of alcohol, then adding herbs, gentian flowers, bitter orange peel, elderflower and other spices.
The Americano is recognized in Asti, the town where it was created, as a piece of history, and proudly declared the aperitif par excellence. Its label also represents this small but well-known town by using a rooster, to both give a nod to Asti and to indicate the function of a Vermouth to “awaken your appetite”.
