Domaine La Soumade was founded by André Roméro in 1979, his son Frédéric joined him in 1996 and in 2002 a modern winery was built and the house began working with wine consultant Stéphane Derenoncour.

In 2010 the dry red wines of Rasteau gained AOC status. Today Domaine La Soumade have 26 hectares in the commune of Rasteau and an additional hectare in Gigondas (a small terraced vineyard near the Dentelles de Montmirail) and produces nine cuvees. The vines are only treated where necessary. Grapes are hand picked from vines between 10 and 30 years old, then selected on a sorting table at the vineyard before winemaking.

18 month maturation of the wine on its fine lees in stainless steel and then a light filtration.

Will elevate when paired with food, will pair well with heavier dishes such as beef stews, pigeon, mushrooms and liver.
