Weingut Dönnhoff is an estate in the Nahe region of the Rhineland, and is regarded as one of Germany's very best producers, 80% of wines produced here are Riesling. The Dönnhoff family has been making wine in this region since the 1750s. Helmut Dönnhoff took over in 1971 where the estate expanded to around 20 hectares, and also grew in reputation. Today his son, Cornelius Dönnhoff, oversees all operations and Dönnhoff is considered to be one of Germany’s top producers.
The Große Lage Klamm is located in the immediate vicinity of the Hermannshöhle. The ancient name "Klamm" describes the landscape and refers to a deep cut in the rocks of the mountain. The vineyards in this area are among the steepest in the entire Nahe region. The Niederhäuser Klamm site is located a little upstream from Niederhausen on the left bank of the Nahe in the immediate vicinity of the Hermannshöhle.
The extremely rocky subsoil consists of slate and broken and weathered porphyry of volcanic origin with a high proportion of iron oxide.The soils are extremely rich in minerals, consisting mainly of porphyry, interspersed with slate elements.
Grapes are selectively handpicked, then fermented and aged in several small stainless steel containers and a portion of large oak barrels,
The 2023 vintage has already sold out in the winery. Ready to drink now but will also cellar for up to 5 years.
