Clear in the glass. Spicy on the nose, lots of salinity, rosemary oil and citrus zest with hints of fresh ginger. Refined on the palate with firm structure and minerality. Touches of juniper berries on the juicy finish. Elegant.
Country: Germany Region: Nahe Grape: Riesling
ABV: 12.5% Bottle Size: 750ml Vegetarian, Vegan
Additional Information: 2021 was another excellent vintage in Germany, considered a return to classic form after a few hot vintages. Donnhoff has succeeded with an incredible array of wines with excellent, elegant acidity and a sleek mineral character. The grapes come from the very steep Roxheimer Höllenpfad (‘Hell’) site, with its infamous red sandstone. The site gets much sun in the evening producing tiny berries that are intense with aromatic complexity while elegant with a peppery-spice mineral character unique to this site.
Vines 10-40 years old. Fermentation and ageing in large wooden barrels and stainless steel. Drink until 2050.
Weingut Dönnhoff is an estate in the Nahe region of the Rhineland and is regarded as one of Germany's very best producers. The Dönnhoff family has been making wine in this region since the 1750s. Helmut Dönnhoff took over in 1971 where the estate expanded to around 20 hectares and also grew in reputation. Today his son, Cornelius Dönnhoff, oversees all operations.
