Additional Information: The Dr. Loosen estate has been in the family for over 200 years and possesses some of Germany's most respected and spectacular vineyards containing un-grafted vines up to 140 years old on spectacularly steep, south facing slopes in the Mosel valley. Since taking over, Erni Loosen has focused on the selection of only healthy grapes, spontaneous fermentation, extended maturation of the wines in large wooden casks and an emphasis on letting his dry wines rest the full lees.
This Grosses Gewächs (GG - “great growth") is from a parcel of extremely old ungrafted vines over 100 years old on the estate's Grosse Lage (Grand Cru) vineyard. All grapes are hand picked, fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged in traditional, old oak thousand liter fuder on gros lees for one year prior to bottling. The extended maturation time allows the wine to develop greater texture and a natural harmony.
Ready to drink now but will age for up to 30 years.
