Less funky than the other Gunderloch GGs, this pale yellow Riesling has lovely, fresh pineapple aromas and although it is only medium-bodied, the herbal character is rather complex. The finish is cool and dry with delicate white peach notes, green apple, hints of sorrel, minerally and a touch of light honey, long long finish.
This is a well balanced and complex Riesling that can age for 20 years or more.

Hipping is a justly famous, steep, southeast/east facing vineyard on red slate, along with Pettenthal, one of the key sites in the Roter Hang

Country: Germany Region: Rheinhessen Grape: Riesling

Additional Information: Gunderloch is a thriving estate of approximately twenty-five hectares of vines in some of the top vineyards of the "Roter Hang" ("red slope") area in the Rheinhessen appellation. The estate has been practising organic for over five years. Fifth generation winemaker Johannes is currently considering certification and has become a driving force for leading the charge for studying and promoting chemical-free viticulture at the VDP. The average yield is held to 45 hl/ha, amongst the lowest in Germany, resulting in wines of high extraction and great quality, some of the finest in Germany.

Johannes Hasselbach has now taken over responsibility for the family business. His parents Fritz and Agnes did so much to restore this Rheinhessen estate to its former glory, and from them Johannes has inherited the goal of further dynamic development. International exchange remains important to him and he continues to find inspiration for his work as winegrower with visitors, colleagues and interns from around the world.
