A delicate floral nose of rose petals, potpourri with hints of leather and earl grey tea leaves. On the palate, cherries rose chocolate and an earthy meatiness. Great structure and taut tannins. Complex, beautifully balanced and delicious with great length.  Drinking now but will continue to develop for up to ten years.

Country: Germany Region: Ahr  Grape: Pinot Noir
ABV: 13%   Bottle Size: 75cl

Additional Information:  Jean Stodden is one of the top producers of Pinot Noir in the world and have been making wine since 1578. Only 3% of their nine hectares are old vine Riesling.

In the most Northern Part of Germany, the 560 hectares of the Jean Stodden estate are planted across three mountain vineyards; Recher Herrenberg, Dernauer Hardtberg and Ahrweiler Rosenthal. Vines grow on extremely steep slopes that can only be tended by hand with some parcels requiring mountain climbing skills to be reached. Only 6% of his wines are exported outside of Germany.

The Ahr river and the Eifel mountain range create the warm yet moderate microclimate ideal for producing top shelf Pinot Noir.

The Rosenthal vineyard was planted by Alexander's father, has been in the family for a long time, vines are on average 30 years old and produce concentrated fruit with very low yields. Soil is dark slate and fine loam ( a mixture of the soils of Sonnenberg and Herrenberg).

Grapes are completely destemmed and a cold maceration before fermentation, stopping any greenness in his wines

This is Stodden's rarest GG, with only a maximum of two barriques, depending on the vintage.  In 2022 only 600 bottles were produced.
