ABV: 14.2% Bottle Size: 75cl
Additional Information: Silver Oak began in in 1972 out of a dairy farm by friends Ray Twomey Duncan and Justin Meyer who had bold vision: focus on one varietal, Cabernet Sauvignon, aged exclusively in American oak and worthy of cellaring for decades to come. Needless to say they succeeded.
After selecting Daniel Baron to succeed him as winemaker in 1994, Justin retired, selling his share of Silver Oak to the Duncan family in 2001. Ray’s sons, David and Tim Duncan, own and operate the winery to this day.
Their wines are still famously aged exclusively in American oak and the winery is one of just a handful in the US with its own cooperage (situated in Missouri conveniently close to where the best white oak is grown).
95.2% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2.1% Merlot, 1.4% Cabernet Franc, 0.7% Petit Verdot and 0.6% Malbec. After two years of the wine ageing in 50% new and 50% one-year-old American barrels, and a further two years in bottle, the oak’s influence enhances and uplifts the gorgeous black and blue fruits and brings suppleness and fluidity to the tannins.
Blending before barrel again allows blends to be based on the inherent qualities of their vineyard components before oak influence.
This wine will continue to improve through 2042 given proper cellaring conditions.
